The Scoot desktop app runs Scoot in its own window on Mac and Windows. It works the same way as Scoot in your browser, keeps itself up to date, and is required for some features, such as using Live Advisor in meetings outside Scoot.

Download and install

If you start a feature in your browser that needs the desktop app, Scoot shows Desktop app required with Download for macOS and Download for Windows buttons.
On Windows, SmartScreen may show a warning the first time you run the installer. The app is signed by Scoot, Inc. Click More info, check that the publisher is Scoot, Inc., and click Run anyway.

Open Scoot and sign in the same way you do on the web, with Apple, Google, Microsoft, or email and password. See Sign-in methods. When you click a Scoot link in your browser for a feature that uses the desktop app, Scoot asks Open the Scoot desktop app? Click Open desktop app to continue in the app, or Download the app if you haven’t installed it yet.

Allow camera and microphone

The first time you join a room, your computer asks whether Scoot can use your camera and microphone. Click Allow. If you clicked Don’t Allow by mistake, turn access back on in your computer’s privacy settings. See Configuring camera and microphone settings.

Updates

The app checks for updates and downloads them automatically. To check yourself:
  1. Click your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner and select My Settings.
  2. Find the Desktop app card. It shows your version, for example Scoot 1.7.14.
  3. Click Check for updates.
    • You’re up to date means you have the latest version.
    • When an update has downloaded, you’ll see that it is ready to install. Click Restart now to install it.
    • If the check fails, click Try again.
The Desktop app card only appears when you are using the desktop app.
